The Draft Cherwell Local Plan 2042 has now reached the next stage in its consultation. Compared to the previous, 2031 Local Plan (produced in 2014), there are major changes that affect Bucknell.

The new plan represents an increase in housing development in North-West Bicester from 2,600 homes up to 4,100 in the Hawkwell area (which coincidentally matches the proposals made by the developers).

The attached document provides a succinct overview of the situation.

Below are some key points you could use to base your objections on:

  1. Oppose the proposed increase of 1,500 extra houses into the same area that it was proposed only to build “up to” 6,000

  2. To insist that the Local Plan has articulate, well defined and unambiguous statements that stipulate the ‘strategic gap’ between Bucknell and any development must represent a gap between the village and any part of a developer’s proposed development including preventing:

    1. development of the gap for use by developers to meet their ‘green requirement’

    2. using the gap for managed green spaces, such as football or sports pitches, burial spaces or parks / play areas

  3. To put into the Local Plan, firm plans for the NW Bicester ‘strategic gap’ to have noise

and light pollution mitigation – such as the planting of a forest

  4. To ensure that the Local Plan plans to prevent vehicular access from the estate onto either the Bucknell Road or Bainton Road and to prevent use of Bucknell by the increased traffic
